Smart Glasses Reminder for Parents & Students

Parents and Students,

Greenwood School District 50 would like to remind families that smart glasses and other wearable technology with recording, communication, or artificial intelligence capabilities are not permitted for student use at school. This includes smart glasses with prescription lenses. Students who require corrective lenses should wear standard glasses that do not contain smart technology.

Smart glasses may allow users to take photos, record video or audio, communicate, access information, or use artificial intelligence discreetly. These capabilities create concerns related to student privacy, school safety, academic integrity, and the protection of instructional and testing materials, particularly in areas such as restrooms and locker rooms.

Students should not bring or use smart glasses at school or during school-sponsored activities where such devices are prohibited. Use or possession during testing may also result in a testing violation and other consequences in accordance with applicable state requirements and district policy.
